How to choose the right Chiropractor for you!

As much as I’d like to say that I’m the perfect chiropractor for all, everyone’s cup of tea(!) sometimes I do refer patients elsewhere to people that I think would be more suitable for them. Whether you need someone who specialises in a certain condition or technique - I’m not afraid to admit I know someone who is a better fit for you.

REGISTRATION

All UK chiropractors MUST be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). They are our regulatory body - our equivalent of the General Medical Council.

We also register with either the British Chiropractic Association (BCA), United Chiropractic Association (UCA) or Scottish Chiropractic Association (SCA) who provide insurance.

Specialities

Some chiropractors have specific specialities/interests. For example paediatrics or sports.

I enjoy treating a wide range of patients but I tend to refer babies to paediatric specialists.

My special interests are geriatrics, jaw pain and headaches (however these are always evolving so feel free to ask me again in the future!)

Technique

There are many different branches of Chiropractic. For example Diversified, McTomoney and Gonstead.

I practice Diversified Chiropractic, which includes many different techniques. However if you have seen a chiropractor before that you have got on well with, I often advise finding one that uses the same technique. For example people who have used McTim chiropractors might find diversified chiropractors too firm (although we can tailor our treatments so do let us know what you prefer!)

Looking out for the whole family (fur babies included!)

Did you know that to become an animal chiropractor you first have to train to be a human chiropractor?

Because of this lots of people, particularly riders choose a chiropractor that can come to them and treat the whole family at once!

This can be particularly helpful for equestrians as some will watch you ride and see if there’s anything wrong with your biomechanics that is affecting your horse.

Personality!

With most businesses having websites and social media these days, give them a stalk! Do they look like the kind of person you’d get on with? Do they come across as friendly, professional or knowledgable? What do you value in a chiropractor?

You can also get a taste for how they run their business, is it in line with your ethics? Do they go for the hard sell? Are you interested in buying a care package or pay as you go?
