Choosing the right chiropractor
GCC registered
First and foremost, your chiropractor needs to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council. This means that your chiro is qualified (and insured) to do the job! In the UK, it is an offence to call yourself a chiropractor if you are not registered with the GCC. You can also dig a little deeper to find out if they are registered with any other associations such as the BCA or RCC which can give you an idea of their treatment style, philosophy, or areas of special interest.
Personality
Check out the chiropractors website and social media to see if they come across as someone you align with. You could see the most qualified chiropractor in the world, but if you don’t like them as a person, you’re less likely to get good results!
Treatment style
Are you looking for adjustments only? A mixture of massage, acupuncture and/or other techniques? Rehab? Most chiropractors graduating in the UK are qualified in “Diversified” chiropractic, which includes many different techniques, but there are also other areas of chiropractic including McTimoney, Gonstead, Sacro-Occipital Technique and more. Take time to research to find what you think might be the best for you.
Transparent
Do they advertise their prices? Are they trying to sign you up to large treatment packages the minute you walk through the door? Always ask how many treatments your chiropractor thinks it may take for you to get better (and also what the next steps would be if you don’t improve - a referral to a different medical professional? A scan? etc).
Book a free chat
Most chiropractors these days offer a free chat where you can get to know them, and ask any questions you may have before starting treatment.
