How long will I need to see the Chiropractor for?

Whilst everyone is different, Chiropractic care is typically divided into 3 stages. Recommended care pathways vary depending on many factors including age, occupation, type and severity of problem/injury, whether the problem is acute or chronic, personal choice and much more. At Gillingham Chiropractic we are happy to help you through whichever care path you choose.

Stage 1. Symptomatic relief

Treatment aims to reduce pain. This tends to be 1-4 or 4-6 depending on the type of problem you have. Treatments are usually needed once or twice a week during this phase. For those in severe pain they may have 3 treatments in a week.

Once you are out of pain, it is up to you whether you would like to stop treatment or continue to the next phase.

Stage 2. Rehabilitation/stabilisation

Now the pain has gone/reduced, treatment focuses more on restoring normal function. At this point you’ll find that you are able to go longer between appointments, for example 2 or 3 weeks.

Again, the amount of time between appointments varies from person to person however, the more you do the exercises you are given, the less you’ll need the Chiropractor!

Stage 3. Prevention/maintenance

This is aimed at people with chronic/recurrent problems or for those who feel they would benefit from a regular “body MOT.” This is to prevent old problems reoccurring and to catch new problems in their infancy. Most of us have see the dentist for preventative reasons, fewer of us do the same for our bodies!

We see a wide range of people chose maintenance whether they are in their 70s+ suffering with arthritis or an athlete wanting to stay at their peak. These appointments vary depending on what your body needs. The most popular choice is monthly treatments, closely followed by 6 or 8 weekly treatments. Others may come once or twice a year.
